Paul Davis Restoration renovates Detroit Tigers training center "Tiger Town"

Paul Davis Restoration recently teamed up with the DIY Network’s DIY to the Rescue and the Detroit Tigers.  According to Paul Davis Restoration of Polk County owner Kevin Lethers, Paul Davis contractors and construction crews, along with DIY to the Rescue show hosts Amy Devers and Karl Champley, worked with Tiger Town personnel to create the facility’s new “look and feel”.

The project focused on renovations to the Tiger Town recreation center and the facility’s Fetzer Hall lobby and study areas. Fetzer Hall is a three-story dormitory, which serves as lodging and entertainment space for the team and visiting ball players. The recreation center and Fetzer Hall are in need of design and construction updates and usability. According to Lethers, the goal of the project was to give both areas a warm, at home feel for the hometown team and visitors.

The project scope included installing a decorative wall system, wainscoting part of the recreation center, painting, new chair rails, rope lighting, display shelves, display memorabilia, and placement of new furniture and televisions.

“We are excited about this project and look forward to helping many individuals enjoy the game of baseball more comfortably, while Tiger Town is brought up to current standards and design trends in the industry,” Lethers said.  “We were selected by DIY to the Rescue based on our history as general contractors on the program and after DIY producers were contacted by Lakeland Tigers contacts for help with updating their training center,” he said.

“The individuals in our office are proud and honored to work on this historic property. Next spring will mark the Tigers 70th season at Tiger Town, extending the longest-lasting relationship between a major league baseball team and a current spring training host city. Plus, this year marks the club's 40th consecutive season of exhibition play at Joker Marchant Stadium,” said Lethers.

“Tiger Town has served as spring training headquarters for the Detroit Tigers since 1934 and the regular season home of the Lakeland Tigers, its minor league farm team in the Class A Florida State League. We are very excited to be a member of the DIY team to renovate this long-time and much loved facility here in Polk County,” Lethers said. “As an additional point of interest as to why we’re excited about this project, the 70 year relationship between the Detroit Tigers and the City of Lakeland is the longest lasting relationship between a Major League baseball team and a Spring Training host city.”
